Before you start
Corrisend runs only on your computer and connects only to your own email. Nothing is stored on anyone else's server, and only you can open it.
You'll need:
- Your Mac or Windows computer, connected to the internet and plugged in.
- Your computer's login password, for its security prompts.
- Your Microsoft 365 or Google sign-in, and your phone in case it asks you to approve the sign-in.
- A setup pack, if your company gave you one. It fills in your details and branding.
1. Install it
Download Corrisend and follow the steps for your Mac or Windows computer on that page. The first start takes a minute or two while it sets itself up, then Corrisend opens in your browser at http://localhost:8000. Bookmark it.
2. The setup wizard
- Create Your Login: your name, email and a new password just for Corrisend (at least 8 characters).
- Have a setup pack? If your company gave you one, click Choose File, pick it, then Load Setup Pack.
- Your Company: check the name, then set your time zone and business hours.
- People: add colleagues now or later (step 4).
- Connect Email Accounts: connect your own email (step 3).
- Choose Your Automations: tick any ready-made ones you want, or skip and add them later.
- Send Yourself a Test, check it arrives, then click Finish Setup.
3. Connect your email
Go to People and click Connect next to your name.
Microsoft 365 or Outlook
- Choose Microsoft 365 / Outlook and click Sign In with Microsoft.
- Sign in on Microsoft's own page. Approve it on your phone if asked.
- You come back to Corrisend showing Signed in. Click Test Connection.
If the sign-in won't go through, click Use a Code Instead and enter the code at microsoft.com/devicelogin on your phone. If Microsoft says Need admin approval, send your IT admin the IT admin page.
Gmail or Google Workspace
- Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google account, if it isn't on already.
- Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, type Corrisend as the name and click Create.
- Paste the 16-letter code Google shows into Corrisend and click Save & Test.
Any other email
Choose Other email provider and enter the IMAP and SMTP server details from your provider's help pages, plus your password or app password.
Corrisend only acts on its own emails and the replies to them. It never moves, deletes or files anything in your mailbox.
4. Add your colleagues
Add only the people you'll exchange automated emails with who also run Corrisend. Your copy emails them, and their copy replies automatically from their own address.
- Go to People. In the Add someone row, enter their name, the name they go by (e.g. Phil, not Phillip), job title and email, then Save People.
- Click Connect next to them, choose On their own computer and click Save.
| Who | Where they go | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| A colleague who runs Corrisend | People, set to On their own computer | Their copy replies automatically, and back-and-forth conversations work |
| Customers, suppliers, anyone else | Address book | They reply by hand. Corrisend spots real replies and lets you know |
Your copy only replies automatically to people on your People page, so nobody else can set off an automatic reply.
5. Your address book
- Add a contact: go to Address Book, fill in Add a Contact and click Save.
- Import a list: a spreadsheet with columns such as Name, Email, Company, Title and Groups. Choose it under Import a List and click Import.
- Groups: type group names in a contact's Groups box, separated by commas. An automation can then email a whole group, together or one email each.
6. Create automations
An automation is one kind of email Corrisend sends for you. Go to Automations and click New Automation.
- The basics: a name, who sends it, who receives it, and what information it uses: uploaded sales materials, quotes, or a spreadsheet or system you add on the Data page.
- When it goes out: on a schedule (e.g. every Monday at 9:00), when something new comes in, or at a regular interval.
- What it says: a ready-written library email in a friendly, formal or direct tone, your own wording, or an AI if you've connected one. Greetings and sign-offs are added to suit each email.
- Automatic reply: for colleagues who run Corrisend. Tick Keep the conversation going for a back-and-forth, such as a quote negotiated over several emails.
- Options: reminders if nobody replies, only sending when a condition is met, and Let me approve each email while you're getting started.
Tick Automation is switched on and click Save.
7. Check before anything goes out
- Pause all sending (Settings → Safety) holds everything until you're ready. A copy set up from a setup pack starts paused.
- Test mode sends every email to one test inbox, such as your own, so you see exactly what recipients would get.
- Approvals shows emails waiting for you, with a full preview. Click Approve & Send or Discard.
- Schedule shows everything due in the next two weeks. Cancel anything, or send it early.
8. Day to day
- Keep it running. Corrisend sends only while your computer is on, awake and running it. A closed laptop lid puts it to sleep and pauses everything.
- Start it automatically. Mac: System Settings → General → Login Items → + → choose Start Corrisend - Mac. Windows: press Windows key + R, type
shell:startup, and put a shortcut to Start Corrisend - Windows in that folder. - Check Home for what's coming up, what was sent, and real replies that need you.
- Backups happen every day. Updates install from Settings → Backups & Updates.
